I love cars, especially Corvettes. That's why I decided to create a section on my site to show off my 1977 Corvette. It's a beautiful car, but it wasn't always that way. The original color of the car was beige with a dark brown interior. This would not do.

In the long hot Illinois summer of 1988 my father and I went to work stripping the car in my garage. We started by removing every single piece of the interior, cleaning and then dying each piece individually from an awful brown to a light saddle color. While we were working on the interior, the rest of the car was transported to my uncle's garage, where it remained for nearly the entire summer while he handled the difficult task of refinishing the exterior. After completing some minor body work, the car was drenched in several coats of deep maroon paint. Once it had an opportunity to dry, he finished it off by laying down the custom pin stripes.

The car then returned to my garage where we added a lower front spoiler and ground effects to each side. Piece by piece the interior was re-installed. The original seats were tired so they were tossed out and replaced with a pair of newer bucket seats from a wrecked '81 Corvette that I found at a swap meet. The interior was now complete.

With the rest of the car looking so nice, it seemed like a crime to put the original Rally wheels back on it. So, to add the final touch and complete the project, the original wheels were replaced with new chrome mags wrapped in a set of Goodyear Eagle ST's.

The first two pictures show the car in the process of stripping the finish down to the gelcoat. The remaining photographs were taken fairly recently with my Olympus C-3030 digital camera.
